Today is what’s up Wednesday, where I tell you what is up!

Well, there’s not really anything going on with me. I have been listening to eBooks and cleaning my house of late. I just haven’t had much time for doing writing, but I keep hoping that might come sooner rather than later. Something else I have been enjoying is watching movie musicals (though I usually have to watch things in 20-minute spurts).

If you didn’t see Spirited with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds this Christmas, you should add it to your watch list for next Christmas. There’s some foul language that seemed unnecessary, so please do not watch with younger children, but I thought the stories, songs, and dance numbers were all fantastic. The story twist was also great.

I’m in the middle of watching the Matilda musical. While I prefer the Danny DeVito version of Matilda, I will admit that the music is enjoyable and that the opening number was absolutely fantastic. Even if you aren’t a fan of the story, you should watch the opening number about the birth of various children and their parents’ reactions – it is just so well done!

I recently listened to the audiobook of Skipping Christmas, and it was one of the rare occasions where I actually thought the movie (Christmas with the Kranks) was better. I’m still pretty shocked about that one. But I just really think they did a good job with the movie, and it’s one that I watch every December.

I’m now listening to a Stephen King audiobook, which is an admittedly grimmer pastime. But as I do so, I have begun to wonder if I might actually be interested in detective books. I guess I’ll need to try out some Agatha Christie books!

News-wise, there aren’t many positive items to look at, but there are certainly some with a glimmer of gold in them. Though a December blizzard in the U.S. killed an unfortunate number of people, there were people whose heroism showed through, like the man who helped break into a school to keep himself and several others from perishing due to the cold. It would be very difficult to figure out what to do if you couldn’t get to your home and/or safety, and I admire folks who can step up and try to assist others instead of only focusing on saving themselves.

Let’s hope we will all be that brave if our time comes to face such a difficult time.
