Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

Today I want to share three of what I think are the prettiest Christmas songs of the past sixty years. They are not carols, but they do bring the spirit of the season. The first is “I Believe in Father Christmas” by Greg Lake. A bit of interesting trivia about this song is he did not compose it as a celebration of the season, but rather as a protest over what he saw as the increasing commercialization of the holiday.

I find it somewhat ironic that a protest song is now celebrated as a beautiful Christmas song.

My next video is one by The Band, titled “Christmas Must Be Tonight”. The melody is gorgeous and the simple words are uplifting.

This is not a song I would have expected from a rock band known more for songs like “The Weight” and “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”.

Last, but certainly not least, is Harry Connick Jr. and “When My Heart Finds Christmas”. The lyrics to this song grab me every time I hear it on the radio and it is not uncommon for tears to gather in my eyes.
