Tuesday Tunes – Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Tuesday Tunes – Somewhere Over the Rainbow

The song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (really, “Over the Rainbow”) was written for the movie The Wizard of Oz. When Judy Garland sings the song near the beginning of the movie, it really draws your attention. The low note on the first syllable of “somewhere” jumping to the higher note just gives a dreamy quality to it that matches song to subject perfectly. While Judy Garland’s version is probably the best-known, I believe Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s rendition of it is so amazing…

Trivia Thursday – The Messiah

Trivia Thursday – The Messiah

In the summer of 1741, George Frideric Handel was presented with a libretto composed by Charles Jennens. The libretto was arranged entirely from portions of scripture, in particular the Old Testament, and became the lyrics for Handel’s famous oratorio, The Messiah. Many stories have been told about the composition of this famous piece. It is true that he composed the entire work in the space of about three weeks, and many have taken this as a sign that Handel was…

Expanding our musical horizons

Expanding our musical horizons

For this Tuesday Tunes post, I thought  I would enlighten you somewhat regarding my musical interests and maybe introduce you to something you might not be familiar with. I am a music lover. I don’t consider myself a connoisseur, as I am nowhere near an expert on the subject, but my interests are wide and varied. Like my brother, Jann, I think classical music is some of the most beautiful written. My tastes run from Mozart, to Bach, to Beethoven….

A Glimmer of Gold – Christmas Bells

A Glimmer of Gold – Christmas Bells

I apologize for returning to Christmas music for yet another post, but I was trying to think of what I should post to fit the glimmer of gold theme when I heard the song “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” This song is one of my favorites, and it is a great illustration of how there is always a glimmer of gold beneath even the darkest of circumstances. If you aren’t familiar with the song or the poem, here…

Christmas Carol or not?

Christmas Carol or not?

The arrival of the Christmas season lifts my spirits every year. I love the smiles and good wishes we seem to exchange so freely and the peace I feel in my heart that honestly is not present in such quantity through much of the year. I especially love the Christmas carols that play in most stores and over the sound systems in shopping malls. There is something about them that affects me. Some of these songs are beautiful, with gorgeous…

What’s Up Wednesday – A Little Christmas Cheer

What’s Up Wednesday – A Little Christmas Cheer

It is strange to say there is little going on just before Christmas, but when it comes to publishing, there is relatively little going on. I am hard at work writing, but my current project will not see the light of day until at least February or March, longer if the audiobook company decides to pick it up. It has a tentative title: No Indignity so Abhorrent. I hope that does not give you too many shivers. While the book does…

My Favorite Christmas Songs

My Favorite Christmas Songs

On the Austen Authors site, I once did a post about my favorite Christmas songs. I have a few as I can usually not pick one, so with such a variety of songs available, I thought I would do a bit of a redux. I’ve only got a couple here, but I thought it might do for a Christmas post. Consider it a Thursday version of Tuesday Tunes! Mary’s Boy Child Easily my favorite version of this song. The Boney…

Tuesday Tunes – Christmas Music (Let There Be Peace on Earth, Thank You Very Much, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer)

Tuesday Tunes – Christmas Music (Let There Be Peace on Earth, Thank You Very Much, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer)

For my first Tuesday Tunes post, I had to decide what genre to focus on. My tastes are a bit eclectic – I like country music, folk music, oldies, Broadway tunes, and music from various children/family movies (Disney movies, CG movies, and that sort of thing). As for what to choose, I figured I should display something that is in keeping with the Christmas season! But what a problem that is – I love so many Christmas songs that choosing…

Tsundere

Tsundere

I will freely admit that I love reading or watching a good tsundere love interest – whether it is the female lead or the male lead – and just wanted to briefly touch upon the type. A tsundere character is a character that initially seems mean, harsh, cold, and/or snobbish – only later to show a warmer and gentler side. Because it is a Japanese term, it is not always easy for English-speaking people to pronounce it, but it is…

Tuesday Tunes – Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major

Tuesday Tunes – Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major

Tuesday Tunes will be a regular part of our posting repertoire, for here you will find some of the best loved music the world has produced. My blogging partners and I have definitive tastes in music, and while I will not claim any superiority for my tastes (though I think I could make a good case for it ;)), mine will flow in certain directions. While I listen to several genres, I grew up listening to classical, which was a…
