Welcome to The Dead South

Meet The Dead South, a folk-bluegrass band from my hometown. My son sent me the link to this song without telling me about the band, but the majority of  video was obviously shot in and around Regina, Saskatchewan. That got me curious, so I had to find out what was going on.

They formed in 2012 and have been together, for the most part, since then. Take a listen to this, it is well worth a few minutes of your time.

Their debut album was a five-song release called The Ocean Went Mad and We Were to Blame. The song above came from that album and was the major reason for their initial success. With the exception of two or three snippets shot in Toronto, the video is a good representation of Regina and area. A surprise, at least to me, were the shots of the band standing in a fountain that sits beside the legislative building in Regina. I’d like to know how they got permission from whomever in the government to use that in the video.

If you liked the song, and who wouldn’t, check out their other work. The latest release is Easy Listening for Jerks Pt. 1 and 2. The more I hear from them, the better I like this band.
